Chinese New Year
I was just told that a bunch of my staff will be taking time off for Chinese New Years. I remember ten years ago hardly anyone celebrated it, but recently shops have been closing, and now it appears they want it as a holiday. Should I budget for the whole week to be written off? I think it’s Feb 4th.

Feckless little workshy muppets.
Between official public holidays, unofficial public holidays (CNY), the days either side of a long public holiday, annual leave, sick days, hours per day gossiping and snacking, and general hammock dwelling mentality, you are lucky to get about a weeks worth of work per annum per employee.

I was in Kep over water festival and it was a madhouse as they seemed to all flock there instead of KPS.spitthedog wrote:Will they still be celebrating Khmer New Year on the beach in Chinoukville this year?

The Raffles always have this as well. I think they do it around brunch time -- they just do it outside so you could stop by with the kids to have a look (but I would confirm they're doing it again first).slavedog wrote:Saw this at an event in KL last year, was one of the highlights of the trip.OffRoader wrote:Check out this video of the dragon dance without the full costume on...

Good to know. The one I saw in KL was at night, which I think made it all the more impressive. They requested that people in the audience refrain from using flashes on their cameras as apparently it is quite distracting for the performers.Miguelito wrote:The Raffles always have this as well. I have a Chinese Temple a few minutes drive away from Playboy Towers.
Last year they had dragon dancing down one of the main roads in the area, absolute chaos.
Great fun though, I just pulled over at a coffee shop, watched the festivities and enjoyed the chaos for half an hour.

Yup, an 'unofficial' 2 day holiday has been announced otherwise it would just be me in the office, and I'd probably be drunk.Miguelito wrote:I just got the list, 2/3 of my staff have already announced they are taking Monday and Tuesday off.
