M Fone Merges with Mobitel After Declaring Bankruptcy

Phnom Penh – The giant mobile phone company M Fone has merged with the Mobitel mobile phone network after ceasing operations due to financial constraints.

M Fone, which has been in operation for many years in Cambodia, declared bankruptcy on the 11th of January, 2013 and is presently engaged in transferring its customer base to the Mobitel phone network. It stated that after close deliberation it had chosen to merge with Mobitel, the leading mobile provider in the country, as being in the best interests of their customers.

An agreement reached on the 11th of January, 2013, between M Fone and Mobitel, stated that, effective immediately, Mobitel would be providing roaming phone service to all M Fone subscribers in Cambodia for 60 days, starting from the 15th of January, 2013, in order to circumvent the possibility of their experiencing service interruptions. At the same time, both M Fone and Mobitel would be working together at transferring M Fone customers to the Mobitel network.

M Fone customers will receive without charge Mobitel sim cards as they are boarded on to the Mobitel network. At the same time, they will be allowed to keep their M Fone phone numbers, including the prefixes.

In its statement, M Fone guaranteed a continued high level of service for their subscribers from Mobitel.
