Comedy Club Cambodia at Pontoon: Tuesday 27th August

The Comedy Club Cambodia bursts back onto the Phnom Penh scene with another outstanding night of stand up hilarity brought to you by Infinity Insurance and Bruntys Cider and in association with Monument Hotel, The Flicks Community Movie Houses and Buffalo Sister restaurant.

Two more fantastic international comedians will grace the stage of Pontoon Club in the form of Tommy Dean (USA/AUS) and Bob Kuboka (USA), while local comics Scotty Muldoon (UK), Laura Snook (UK) and Sam Thomas (USA) will also make welcome appearances.

The show is slated to start at 8:30pm with tickets at the remarkably low price of $8 for an evening of side-splitting entertainment.

TOMMY DEAN

Arizona-raised stand-up star Tommy Dean, now resident in Sydney for 16 years, occupies the top echelons of Australia’s headline comedy artists.

With pin sharp banter, genial manner and a vast stock of broad appeal hilarious routines interweaving the foibles of his adopted home country with the dark reality of his country of origin, Tommy never fails to connect with and impress any audience.

His impressive media appearance CV includes Spicks and Specks, Good News Week, Stand Up Australia, Rove Live, Joker Poker, Sunrise, The Today Show and The Sideshow.

“More spin than Shane Warne.”

BOB KUBOTA

Bob Kubota began his career as a stand-up comic in 1987 while still a student of journalism at Arizona State University. Encouraged by virtually no-one, he honed his particular idea of humor at open mic nights sponsored by various saloons and bistros throughout the greater Phoenix area.

Within two years Bob was ‘on the bill’ for paying customers at legitimate comedy clubs. Only then did he let his parents know that his life dream didn’t include bar exams – just bars.

His penchant for dry wit, lighthearted sarcasm and deciphering life’s ironies has led him to the majority of the contiguous 48 states as well as Alaska and Hawaii, and the sly take that he has on his own ethnicity continually proves to be a popular feature of his act.

In 1996, Bob became an international performer when he joined the United Service Organization (USO) and now tours regularly with the ‘Comics On Duty’, providing comic relief to American military troops stationed around the globe.

Bob has now spun his material in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bahrain, Italy, Spain, Portugal, England, Iceland, Hungary, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Diego Garcia, Australia, Haiti, Honduras, Cuba, and many more. He has also performed in Hong Kong for English-speaking residents of the city’s bustling business and finance community.

Comedy Club Cambodia? What a concept! What will they be talking about anyway. Bashing-Cambodia topics of course.

Did you go? Was a good night. No Cambodia bashing at all. Even if it was, it’s just comedy. Slamming it before it’s even happened is beyond reproach. CCC has been running successfully for 2 years now. Sounds like you could do with a laugh to dust those cynical cobwebs away.

*”Even if it was, it’s just comedy.”

You don’t have to guess at all. It has been done for so many generations since the French colonial regime until now. You can mask or disguise “Cambodia bashing” in myriad of forms, but at the end of the day it remains Cambodia bashing. Cambodia has been the butt of a joke or a laughing stock or whatever term you may call it among the Westerners for ages and it is not going to change for the better anytime soon.
