Jennifer Baichwai’s MANUFACTURED LANDSCAPES (2006, 80 mins, English) focuses on the world and work of photographer EDWARD BURTYNSKY.

He creates stunningly beautiful art from civilization’s materials and debris. The film follows him through China, as he shoots the evidence and effects of that country’s massive industrial revolution.

With breathtaking sequences, the filmmaker allows us to witness both the epicenters of industrial endeavor and the dumping grounds of its waste.

In our Art Café we play music by English cult group DEPECHE MODE. Their single “”Everything Counts” (1983) has been referred to as “the first English-language industrial pop hit.”
