I fly back to the UK from my lockdown in Quito tomorrow. I have a Salvoconducto and a letter from the British Embassy to aid my trip to the airport, just hope I can flag down a willing taxi.
My plan was to fly to the Philippines in two weeks time, spend two months travelling around Malaysia with my Filipina girlfriend.
Then the Philippines and Malaysia bought in their big clampdowns, so I changed my flight to Thailand planning three months solo chillout in Thailand and Cambodia.
Then the Thais clamped down, no way to get a health clearance so Thailand is off the books, Travel to Cambodia would have a flight connection in Thailand so I guess that is also impossible.
I could currently still fly from the UK to Mexico. A friend in Mexico tells me that she hasn't ventured out for a week, a lot of places there are closed, everything seems quiet, and the Mexican President is considered insane because he is still hugging and kissing people.
So it looks like I will be stuck in the UK for a long time. I cannot see how restrictions can be eased, Thailands strict entry policies for UK travellers will not be dropped any time soon, why should they when one infected tourist could trigger an epidemic.
I reckon that International travel from the UK will be severely impacted for at least a year, possibly far longer.
If I was in Thailand or Cambodia I would NOT return to the UK.
