You are in a coffin on wheels. I would pack a can opener, you might need it to get out.
Only if he gets hit on a larger road outside of town.
Around town, it's the small taps in traffic that are dangerous. The ones that are just enough to open up an ankle, crack a shin, squeeze a foot, etc.
I've lost count of the number of times I've been hit in the car while stationary in traffic - every time a moto that obviously wasn't watching what was on the road up front. They hit the car from all angles - I've even had them ride straight into the side of the truck - slab-sided thing that it is.
With the car I can just replace a lens, spray up a bumper corner, pull out a dent, etc... not so easy to fix a leg.
Far, far safer in a car than on a bike in Phnom Penh - outside of town's an entirely different matter; speed is the killer on the national roads.

I don't know how many times I've heard that said... Can accelerate/squeeze out of trouble. And into what?
Any doubt at all that your intended route isn't clear and open - slow the fk down!
Ye Gods and little fishes, you've a lot to learn about defensive driving.
