I think any white person who spends at least 6 months in SE Asia reaches the point where they can never go "home". About 6 months is the tipping point, 12 months quickly becomes 24, 48 etc.
A 6 month trip through Thailand was what did me. I'd visited for a few month long visits before and returned home as normal.
