I worked for the bum for nearly three years at his indoor sports facility in Saco, Maine USA. My desk was 10 feet from his.
I was privy to hundreds of conversations between Howard and vendors, city officials, lawyers, bankers, etc. He seemed to revel in doing whatever he could to screw people out of money. His favorite slogan was, "Its easier to ask forgiveness than permission." On more than one occasion he undertook significant construction projects within his facility without ever getting a permit or seeking out any legal requirements. Every time the city made him tear down those projects, even after completion.
If there was a right way, a legal way of doing things, and a wrong way, he chose the wrong way every time. On purpose. On more than one occasion he talked the local sheriff out of sealing up his business for not paying his bills. His attorney brother bailed him out legally and financially of many scrapes.
He was the youngest child of a family of four kids, and his older siblings basically raised him, as his parents moved to Florida, leaving the young Andy Howard to be raised by his siblings, who apparently had no interest in instilling any sense of morals into him. He was a pathological liar. He had no boundaries.
The financial and legal mess he left in this city, and with his family, friends, business partners, vendors etc. is still taked about today.
