For letters and very small packages, I use 'regular' registered mail for which you get a tracking number. It's charged by weight starting from about kr 14,000 (ie for about 3 sheets of A4 paper). Has always arrived for me. I once asked where a letter was a few days after posting, just to see if they actually followed it - they were able to tell me exactly where it was at that time via the tracking number.
Re customs - I've never been charged, but then I've never received 10kg of stuff in one go.
I came tru the airport the other night at about 10.30 pm. Women were coming off a flight (from Korea??) with about 3 trolleys each of suitcases and packed boxes - not one of them was stopped by customs.....
