Not on the tourist trail.
Funny, I've always found the Viets friendly enough. Perhaps it's a result of my radiating positivity wherever I go. On my last trip in July, the girl who checked me in spotted on my passport that it was my birthday and, much to my embarrassment, arranged a surprise cake for me,. That was a run of the mill mid-range hotel in D1 Saigon.
Same here, except for the birthday cake. LOL. Twice through Saigon and Vung Tau this year, I could report absolutely no long faces or forced smiles. In fact, compared to Thailand, where I am at the moment, VN has been a delightful experience (except for the bad air pollution in SGN, which actually spoiled part of my trip). Fortunately, I was next due to Vung Tau where the air is fresh, the big town peaceful and the girls welcoming.
