First of all my respect to this foreigner for risking his life and his family to do this. His last lifeline is problably because he got a lot of media attention and maybe embassy involved.. or who knows who is involved on the back ground..
All remember the cambodian speaking Spanish guy? luckily he had a lot of media attention so they could not make him disapear.. so they decided to make him "Persona non grata" and kicked him out of the country.
but please wake up people you see those rangers on the picture? Those are a perfect example! PUPPETS IS WHAT THEY ARE.
if you haven't been to the area and still in doubt, rent a cross moto and do a tour and some camping. if you are there long enough you will see plenty of trucks full of wood and big tuk tuk type vehicles full of wood leaving the forrests. locals with professional tools while their moto is barely driveable. Imagine if you would have the power to stop them than still you can't, they will have an excuse for everything and every occasion.
Those Rangers come on.. you can simply see it by how their expression is and their state of body. slim (no beer and karaoke) and ZERO authority. They have nothing to say. The rangers might be great people and really try what they can, but they simply can not much.. And most importantly they will say nothing once Mr Okna shows up with his brand new LX 570, (complete with the blue red army licence plates)
*Edit: when you do a tour around north cambodia you will see all the woodshops on the side of the road, show them a picture of the rosewood and they either have it in stock, or can easily get it on order! I tried this 1 time and first shop was BINGO!! but probably after they read this post it might become more difficult for a foreigner to ask for it lol
By the way have you wood lovers been to the new Sagnam Casino hotel yet? Ask to stay in the presidential suite, its wood from ceiling to bed, to walls to floor!!
