Living rurally is a piece of piss. I have spent most all of the past three years in rural Preah Vihear.
Best roads in the country. Internet fast enough to stream whatever the fuck you might want to watch at any given time for $27 pcm.
Three hours to Phnom Penh by moto, 3.5 hours via car. two hours to stung treng, 2.5 to siam reap.
Electricity rarely cuts out, 60kw/h for $20.
Local markets are good, fresh meat and fruits and veggies.
People friendly without intruding, personal space seems to have slightly more consideration than in other provinces.
I did have malaria once, but that was my own fault.
The major downside is that it's dull as all hell. Options at night are between drink, weed, reading or looking at screens. I'd recommend decompressing in a large city once or twice a month.
