Just two months after Malaysian business entrepreneur Sivakumar S Ganapathy (aka Siva Kumar G) purchased The Phnom Penh Post from Australian mining magnate Bill Clough (See: New Era For The Phnom Penh Post Under Malaysian PR Company Ownership the future of Cambodia’s oldest newspaper is again under a cloud.

According to previously reliable Twitter user ‘Violet Baudelaire’ (@ioBaudelaire), who claims to be a Post employee, the almost 26-year old publication has been sold to Chinese owned Prince Real Estate Group, one of Cambodia’s largest property developers. The official announcement is to be made on Tuesday next week (July 17), ‘Ms Baudelaire’ tweeted.

If true the sale will likely herald the end for the English-language version of The Phnom Penh Post.

People familiar with Prince Real Estate Group told AEC News Today its efforts are “entirely focused on the Chinese market”, while recent reports say the print run for both language editions of the Post have dropped to a mere 2,000 copies in total, with printing staff said to be only working between three and five hours a day.

Supporters of Kem Ley, including NGOs and youth groups, on Tuesday commemorated the second anniversary of the prominent political analyst’s death by shooting.

Many who attended called for the creation of a panel to further investigate the killing, with one saying he believed the man serving life in prison for the crime is a “fake killer” acting as a fall guy for powerful masterminds.

However, a Ministry of Justice spokesman said the request to establish such a panel is “impossible procedurally”.

A wreath was laid at the petrol station cafe on Monivong Boulevard where Ley, an outspoken critic of the government, was shot dead on July 10 , 2016.
