Are there ways of getting the money back if she pulled a runner on me once I gave it to her? We agreed to 6000USD. Should I record a video of us talking about our wedding or would our facebook chats be considered evidence in a Khmer courtroom? Would it be ideal to give her a debit card with the bridewealth on it so if she runs I would be able to claim she stole the card?
What you effectively want to know is, "can I trust her for the rest of my life ?".
For that, you have to invest money. Invest $6K and find out, whether she and her family can be trusted for longer than the first few weeks of the wedding. Find out, how they deal with money. If they do properly and manage to make more money out of your $6K, wow, that's a good "investment". Give them more and they make you rich.
If they do screw up, then you know (and have clear proof of that towards her and the family), it should be you, in charge of the money. Take it or leave it, so to say.
If they make a runner, well lessons learned. Better find out right away, then after x- years, "investing" part of your life and far more money than the $6K.
Good luck. Just take care to let them know, you want them to make more money out of the money you give.
