The really brilliant thing about this thread is that nobody has any idea what I'm talking about.
The interesting thing about this thread is that everyone knows exactly what you're on about.
Your premise is that Vietnamese shopkeepers are generally morally bankrupt, which is why they call the police to beat up cheated customers. You are hoping that posters will discuss the police angle, perhaps tell some stories, which reinforces your premise.
Posters are pointing out that your premise is incorrect in their collective experience (substantial collective experience at that) and hence anything built upon this premise also incorrect.
I trust this constructive feedback is of assistance.
Nicely stated. Logical and concise.
Nicely stated for a delusional paranoic perhaps.
Reading far too deeply into a basic question. Must have chosen the wrong Oreo, or I triggered some Cambodian expat pricing psyche response.
When presented with logic you slag the messenger. Says more about you and your inability to have an intelligent discussion.
Logic?
Is it logical to talk about Vietnamese shopkeepers when the question I posed was about Cambodia? It's in the tittle of the thread. I think you should read some of the other replies on this thread before accusing me of any
slagging.
This thread is not about about cheating immoral small shopkeepers in Vietnam or anywhere else. It is about police practices..
It's not based on my "opinion" or "observation", but from experience. Experience of around ten Vietnamese people who have told me their experiences.
For passing on this information and asking whether it happens here, i have been called racist and stupid.
I have never had a Khmer complaining to me about the police in relation to small shop practices in Cambodia. It could be for a few reasons, one of which may be they prefer not to discuss these sort of things with myself;
I thought I would ask. But it does seem that I have triggered a rather strange expat response to SEA small business practices. Which I find rather at odds with what is widely known about them in the West.
It seeme rather ingrained in the expat psyche. I'm genuinely worried about you all, as it cant be healthy denying the obvious.
