I just turned up at the border with a Cambodian reg bike, not in my name,no Cambodian licence.Filled out a few forms on the Lao side, about $7 or$8 dollars to various officials for tea money and was issued with a permit to import the bike for a period of 30 days.Cambodian customs did not even bat an eye lid about the bike leaving.
I have read others have done the same going into Laos, but heard that it is possible to do the customs clearance at the embassy. And the price is more than 7 or 8 dollars... More like 30. Did you really ride over that border? If so, did you have a smooth re-entry back into Cambodia on your bike, seeing as it was locally plated and registered?
The return was a different storey as i stayed in Laos nearly 2 months so well over the paperwork.
What i did was wait just out of sight of the border for a tourist bus to arrive and parked the bikedirectly behind the bus, removed all MC gear and mingled in with the passengers to do the visa, then when they lifted the barrier to let the bus through i just followed it through close behind to be honest i dont think customs was even awake.
