I dunno, I can copy the gif as you outline but it doesn't allow me to paste into the message editor (either on iPad or Android phone). Paste just doesn't appear.
Maybe different on mobile device and laptop?
Or maybe, as YTP has gently suggested, I'm just a bit spazzy.

If I really, really want to though I can download the gif and insert from phone.

That’s really basic stuff.
Just copy the link from the gif and insert into img tags. No need to upload.

I assumed that as the gif is from a gif app and not held on my device then it would be different.

Yes I understand that, but I changed cookie settings after you logged in so you got a cookie that will expire in 30 days.

If you relog you’ll get a cookie with no expiration time.
