My LG G3 experienced a problem with the touch part of the touchscreen and needs a new digitiser installed. So I thought I'd get a replacement phone until it gets done. Got a Samsung S5 in reasonable condition for $90. Head phone jack was unusable initially as I couldn't insert a headphone plug but after a quick browse of the Internet and a de-linting operation. It now works. Apparently IP67 doesn't consider lint an issue. The S5 has the same chipset as the G3 but a smaller and less power hungry screen.
The main problem I found with the phone was that it wouldn't connect to the LTE/GSM Internet. Works OK with wifi etc. So I figured an update to Android 7 might be a choice. Fairly easy to do apart from a couple of issues, such as not having a keyboard installed and a update failure screen which was fixed by updating the USB drivers.
Update went OK and now the phone shows and connects to the LTE/GSM Mobitel network.
So next will be the T-Mobile Note 3 update.
It was an exciting hangover day.
