Demoted after allegations found to be true, but no criminal charges will be brought.
General Khieu Sopheak, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, confirmed that the Ministry of Interior had decided to terminate Major General Ouk Kosal as Kampong Thom provincial commissioner.
Mr. Ouk Kosal's termination of his position came after he was sued by some female police officers under the supervision of Samdech Sar Kheng, the Minister of Interior, for harassing them. In a telephone interview with the press on the evening of September 8, 2020, Mr. Khieu Sopheak stated: "After the investigation, it was found that he acted in accordance with the complaint."
Mr. Khieu Sopheak said that a new commissioner has now been appointed to replace Mr. Ouk Kosal. But he did not remember the name of the new commissioner.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Interior added that Ouk Kosal had been demoted from two stars (lieutenant general) to rank five (lieutenant colonel) and that the Ministry of Interior had proposed lowering two ranks (possibly to rank three).
