Been a busy week at the Culture Dept.
A song called "Death of Jayavarman VII" was banned and the singer sung by Meas Soksophea forced to apologize for upsetting the dignity of the royal family through 'incorrect historical truth'- despite the fact that J7 passed away circa 1218AD.
Today flambouyant designer and controversial fashionista Em Riem- known for his interesting takes on the catwalk has upset the ministry with a photo/meme.
The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts wrote:
"The Disciplinary and Commendation Council of Artists would like to inform Em Riem, the owner of Pak EM Riem, that the Disciplinary and Commendation Council has seen the publicly posted picture of him that is obscene and harmful to the traditional culture and dignity of the society.
In the same case, the Secretariat of the Disciplinary and Praise Council of Artists has previously invited him to educate the public that he has already posted such images once before, so the Disciplinary and Praise Council of Artists requires Mr. Em "Ready to delete that image immediately from all social media.... If you do not comply with this notice, the Disciplinary and Praise Council of Artists will take action in accordance with the law in force.
The Disciplinary and Commendation Council of Artists hopes to believe that he really complied with this notice, stopping all use of images that affect the national tradition and return to using his talents to promote traditional culture of the nation, as the descendants of the Khmer people with high civilization. ”
Luckily the media happily reprinted the offending images and the bad song.
