The bottom part of the land has remained empty for years as Khmers believe its haunted. It is rumoured to have once held office of Angkar, although that's never been confirmed.
I imagine you guys in Kampot have little else to do but discuss rumors like ghost-haunted tracts of land... But that is a wonderful story. Wow! Would be great if you could document it; maybe there are old photos of the
Khmer Rouge / Angkar office...? Let us hope the Chinese a-holes who buy the condos in the new monstrosity get haunted out, and they tear it down and build a pleasant park, as would have been the only correct and aesthetically appropriate design for that particular area, especially if preservation of the old town had been, even remotely, a priority. The Cambodian rich are despicable, (or merely stupid.) They sell out to the Chinese everything beautiful and good. For example, in 2017, the PM had declared the wetland next to the
Independence Hotel a conservation site, officially, with a declaration and prakas. Then, two years later, the Chinese nazis bought all that land, and now, not a tree stands on the side opposite the hotel jungle -- where before -- it was a gorgeous pond surrounded by lovely trees and purely natural. Assholes run this country, nothing more to be said.
Yep, moved to Malaysia 2 years ago, best thing I ever did. Grew to loathe Cambodia, a stinking hole, run by greedy assholes selling up to yellow assholes. If you have kids, my advice, get them out. Never coming back!
Yes the heads of the Malaysian government would never embezzle state funds for personal gains...
