Generally , when a foreigner dies in Cambodia , and identification is made , the relevant embassy is notified , who in turn contact the family of the deceased, to advise them , and to ascertain if they want to repatriate the body .
Given the advanced state of decomposition , and the cost of repatriation , the most logical decision would have been to have the body buried or cremated locally , which , in this case , is more than likely what happened .
