The Ministry of Health has advised consumers not to purchase the male sexual improvement product Good Man because it has not registered with the ministry and may lead to adverse health effects.
According to a ministry notice released on Monday, an illegal company has been advertising the product, which is apparently manufactured in the United States, on Facebook.
The notice said the company has not registered with the ministry to allow it to carry out inspections of the medicine and has no legal permission to import the product.
The ministry added that the company has made false claims that the medicine could aid sexual prowess, as well as kidney and prostate health.
“To avoid any loss of money, and negative affects to the health of consumers, the Ministry of Health expects the public to stop buying this product over the internet and stop believing in scams and frauds,” the ministry said.
The ministry noted that legal action would be taken against companies or people importing and distributing medicines without proper authorisation.
The ministry also listed several other male sexual enhancement medicines being advertised on Facebook that should be avoided, including King Man, MaBido, Super Storm Vita M, Horny Goat Weed, Blue Rock and Hammer.
Hean Kimseat, deputy director of the regulatory office at the Health Ministry, said yesterday that officials were searching for the owner of the Facebook page selling the illegal products to take legal action.
“We have not yet found those selling Good Man medicine,” he said. “We have also had difficulty finding the owners of some other pages selling other products, but we have issued this notice to advise consumers and will continue our investigation.”
