Do you have to teach the bambinos for that kinda cash?
The highest salaries do seem to be for teaching KG, and that seems to be true of other Asian countries. My new job is teaching primary kids, which is basically the age group where I have most teaching experience.
Teaching privates is certainly possible, but the city where you teach will definitely affect the hourly rate. Most expat teachers work in either Yangon or Mandalay, and in both cities there are many 'schools' (I use that word cautiously).
In my case, I work in Naypyidaw, where there are only 1 or 2 schools, extremely few expat teachers and a huge number of civil servants who want to improve their English skills. Hourly rates for private adult tuition can be up to $50 if you're teaching IELTS/TOEIC etc.
But you cannot just turn up in Naypyidaw and start teaching privates. You need to have a business visa that is sponsored by your local employer. That means first finding a job and then searching out private tuition opportunities.
Forgot to add - that photo was taken at the hotel where I stayed (the school paid for this). They have just moved me to stay at the Hilton (biggest swimming pool in Myanmar). These school are serious about looking after their expat teachers.
That longyi is top-quality! Cost me $15 USD.
