Got the same email from Thailand this morning. Just installed the Grab app and added card details, all pretty easy. The main advantage for me that Grab and previously Uber have over the others is the card payment option, making for cashless transactions. No more BS with the drivers, no worrying about having small money or if the driver has change.

Yeah, you can get a car for less than the price of a tuk tuk, even with a $1 tip they are cheaper and you don't have to haggle with some idiot who thinks that because he hasn't had a fare all day you owe him the short-fall.

A bangkok driver I used a fortnight ago that drove for both hated Uber - mostly foreigners that would argue, challenge fares, and just act weird in the back of her car, whereas Grab rides were mostly asian. Grab paid significantly more, for her
Do you mean because she had more fares? I thought they were both 20% commission.
She said more per fare.
Yes, the rates vary per market. In Cambodia, uber paid more per fare than grab and many drivers preferred uber as they didn't get as many Chinese passengers. At least once a week a driver complains about Chinese passengers to me unasked, usually about smoking in the vehicle.

It was the Japanese bank’s, SoftBank, that bought Uber, decision to sell to Grab in SEA so that they can focus in other (US, Europe, Latin America) markets. Uber to retain a 27.5% share.

I got the same message from Grab today. It's a shame, I have been using both since they have been here, with the promotions they always have trying to compete I have barely paid for months

Uber is now leaving Cambodia:

I also got this email from Uber Thailand:
We want to share some news with you - Uber will be combining our operations with Grab to lead you in the next chapter of ridesharing in Thailand.

What this means for you: we will be transitioning our services over to the Grab platform by 8-4-2018, and you will need to sign up for the Grab service to accept rides after that date. Rest assured, all rides picked up on the Uber platform before the cutover date will be paid in full.

What you should do:

Download the Grab Driver app here (IOS - Android)
Visit Grab for specific sign-up instructions

For more information on this transition, please visit Uber or Grab.

Thank you and we look forward to continuing to partner with you at Grab.

Regards,
Uber.

2 different emails and credit cards, if you try to use the same Uber will tell you it's already in use.

TPP to Canadia tower cost me 85c during peak time. If you have multiple accounts (on different phones) like I have, that's a lot of free rides. Plus not having to deal in cash with drivers is a real bonus, that alone would make uber my preferred choice.

I had 4 rides so far, no problem except for the one hyper slow fucktard afraid to step on the gas in his old prius. I think their regular rate is something like 50c/km plus $3 per hour, pro rated of course.

Question about your multiple accounts. Is the uber app on each of your devices a google play app? If so, does each device use the same google play account (same email and associated payment method)? I am just wondering what Uber uses to determine 'unique customer'. I guess a dual sim phone...two numbers on same device would not count as two unique customers as uber app is on same device.
