....Unless things have changed very significantly you don't need all that documentation to open a bank account. Why would the bank care if you have a work permit...and I know several EB holders who don't need a WP.
I think I just needed passport with valid visa (I think there was a min remaining number of months requirement) and a letter from employer confirming my address.
But I guess there are reasons why people are using PayPal which a local account wouldn't address. Perhaps those who work online and get paid internationally?
An ER would be enough, though they start with asking for PP+EB+Work permit. Maybe 6 months EB's, but 1 year EB's do need a WP, otherwise: Jail. And, the bank wants to know where you live (so not in a guesthouse and move abroad next week), so a rental agreement. Banks are held more and more accountable what is happening with the accounts of their customers.
You speak with real confidence and authority, but much of what you write is not actually correct.
Read again what I wrote. They START with the PP+EB+WP+proof of stay and depending on the situation, they are prepared to scale down their requirement, though PP+long-term VISA+proof of stay is the minimum. And, it is understandable, they do ask for a EB with WP, since without WP, you will not be able to extend your visa, so no "stable" customer for the bank.
And, this also varies by bank. Opening an account at Canadia, some 10 years ago, was much easier. Only PP+1 month Ordinary visa was enough. This may have changed.
When opening my ABA account, they initially persisted to the EB+WP. Showing them my ER, they got glassy eyes, not understanding your income, and where it does come from. I explained them, that as retired, you start with a big bag of money and when you die, the bag is empty. They got it and accepted my ER.
Ok @v12 I read it again. What they asked for and what is required are likely separate things. Perhaps even what they require and what you understood them to require varies also.

Incorrect. See my message above for ABA requirements. No work permit. Minimum required is PP, visa, proof of employment or proof of address.
but 1 year EB's do need a WP,
Incorrect. Most do but a significant number do not require a WP
otherwise: Jail.
Incorrect. How many people do you know who have been jailed for no WP? People get fined for working with no WP. They get deported for no visa (with maybe a short stay in immigration detention first). Cambodia gov isn't jailing people for no WP.
And, the bank wants to know where you live (so not in a guesthouse and move abroad next week)
Incorrect. A guesthouse with a long term contract is acceptable. Anybody could move abroad next week, not just those in a guesthouse.
they do ask for a EB with WP, since without WP, you will not be able to extend your visa,
Incorrect. There are several categories of people who can extend EB without WP.
There we go. Happy to help.
You like micromanagement and nitpicking, just to complain, isn't it ?
For example: What is the effective difference in "long term" between a house rental contract and a guesthouse long term contract ?
Expelling those with EB and no WP: Yep, immigration detention and once you coughed up ticket money, get deported. So, jail.....
No, I just dislike people presenting incorrect information as fact. Which you are still doing.
Others could read this and take your bad info as true and completely waste their time. Then spread the bad info onwards.
Plenty of people have EB and no WP, there are valid reasons for it.
And even if there isn't a valid reason for not having one, you aren't get jailed and expelled for it. So, not jail... Isn't it?
