Actually I've followed Canadian banks ever since they were named the best banking system in the world several years in a row post-2008, and "National Bank of Canada" is a bit misleading... It's not even one of the "big five". Scotia Bank has a lot of overseas banks (including South America, not sure if they got burnt there). I originally assumed they were the ones who had taken a stake in ABA. Still, NBC is a "first-world" bank, so it instills more trust than local outfits (if that's a worry). I used to exclusively use ACLEDA, then when their service and rates started going to shit three-four years ago, I switched to CPB. They were equally shit, so I now use ANZ and Prasac. I visited ABA a few times, but ended up with not opening an account.
