Cost me <US$3,000 a year when I enrolled at age 64. Five years later, a bit more than $3,000.
This is with a $500 deductible.
I was hospitalized at Royal Phnom Penh after an accident, bill paid in full directly to the hospital with no problem.
Also worth looking at is Cigna Close Care -- from Cigna Global NOT Cigna US.
I don't know why you got such high quotes, maybe these were US based insurers? And perhaps it was for OPD + hospitalizaion? You need only hospitalization, as long as the hospitalization only policy includes day surgeries, dialysis and cancer care.
Rates will go up as you age though and >80 years might indeed run as high as $10k a year for the two of you.
