Why would you avoid the weekend? you know there are no tourists here now?
We went on a weekend in July and it was very busy. I knew it would be but that's just how it fitted with the rest of our trip and couldn't be helped.
My big tip would be to take your own lunch with you, a roast chicken, sandwiches or whatever. The food sold there is pretty awful, also expensive. Cold beer is available for a reasonable price.
