So you think the average Beltei or New World English teacher has the skill set to create high quality copy and content that drives traffic and sales?

I'm with Harlan Ellison - "pay the writer!"

At least it's not teaching! Sounds like a good slogan, does it not?

From my understanding it's inline with what most English teachers and rookie journalists earn and requires a similar skill set. Unlike an English teaching position however this is a job with real growth prospects and the opportunity to be part of building something unique. The reality is that due to the nature of our work it's going to take at least six months for the successful applicant to really get up to speed, that lead time is reflected in the starting salary.

If you want to work in a small laid back team that believes strongly in what we are doing, if you want to work with a high degree of autonomy, if you want a position that's the start of a career in Cambodia rather than just a job, then I suggest you get in touch.

Expecting to pay a native speaker $1200 for creating content full-time is exploitation.

I run a fast growing tech startup based here in Phnom Penh that produces a web based software system that is used by business clients around the world (SaaS B2B). We are looking to expand our content marketing efforts in order to drive traffic and sales leads. This involves the creation and sharing of various forms of content across various channels (blog, documentation, social channels):

- Blog posts
- Promotional videos
- Tutorial videos
- Product documentation
- Short industry specific ebooks
- Info graphics
- Web advertising
- Email newsletters

We already have the capacity to produce all of the above to a high standard in terms of production quality. Where we would like to improve is our copy writing, so we would like to hire someone that can plan, write and script the content that we produce and then work closely with a designer to finalize the content.

We work in an technical industry that you are likely currently unfamiliar with, so you must be able to learn a new technology quickly and be comfortable creating content around subjects for which you are not an expert (at least initially). For this reason I think journalists maybe particularly suited to this position, using interviewing skills to extract information for content from more experienced colleagues.

I'm not really looking for any specific qualifications, it's about finding the right person with the right attitude rather than ticking boxes. Really I'm looking for someone with the following:

- Experience in copy writing (ad, short form and long form)
- Social media savvy
- Comfortable with using voice/face in video materials
- Extremely fast learner
- An active interest in technology
- Knows how to self learn
- Gets things done
- Not overly sensitive to feedback or criticism
- Corporate experience (enough to be able to speak their language and know how they think)

About the Job

In the beginning there will be a very steep learning curve and you will be expected to get up to speed with our product and the industry ASAP. In the beginning you will be given content ideas to work on, but in the future you will be expected to manage this alone.

The starting salary will be $1200 nett and there will be scope for ongoing salary growth once you are past the coaching stage and taking ownership of the role. You will work office hours Monday to Friday and will be paid for the public holidays that we observe as well as 15 days of paid annual leave. We will also consider applicants who can only offer a part-time commitment.

If you are interested or have any questions, send me an email at [email protected]
