Why don't you go into (or help with) business with your friend who's moving his factory here? Truth be told, I'm surprised to hear he's moving a factory here, as the cost of electricity is relatively high as is labor, there's a low skilled workforce, and the trend is for factories (at least garment) to be moving out, not in. Your first job for him could be to analyze cost saving measures by implementing solar into his factory, something I think many factories here could benefit from.
Finance guys moving to this region from working in Hong Kong is a trend that's been going on for decades, with guys doing everything from owning bars to being CFOs to large companies here or starting their own conglomerates. After 9 years in Finance in London and HK I hope you have a large nest egg already and not too many shiny watches instead.
I hate to be pessimistic, but your wife will have a hard time finding work. I doubt you or her would think maybe $150-$200 a month waitressing here would be worth it. She may be able to find menial office work for a little more, but I'm guessing you'll be the breadwinner here.
Good luck and hopefully you'll find this forum somewhat useful, despite a lot of the blowhards here.
