Re: Whats the dumbest thing your Cambodian wife/girlfriend ever tried to do to your child?
I was teaching a class of 9 year olds, and one day one of the boys showed up without his eyebrows. His mum had shaved them off so that they would 'grow back thicker'. That was a rough day for him. I thought the mother must have been pretty ignorant to not anticipate how much ridicule he'd get from h...

Re: Criminal background check for Americans
OK. I don't know about the US, as I'm not 'murican.
If you are in Cambodia and needing a Cambodian police check, you can do it yourself (a cheap, but incredibly irritating, time consuming process) or pay a local agent for roughly $100.

Re: Criminal background check for Americans
Are you in Cambodia seeking a US police check, or outside Cambodia seeking a Cambodian police check? If its the latter, get in touch. I've just been through this process and the agency my employer used got it done. From my research into them, it's cheaper than flying back to Cambodia to do it, but d...

Re: Do you have a duty to your Khmer wife to go and live in Barangland together?
A friend of mine who settled in Cambodia and had a child was strong in the opinion that you really owe it to your offspring to give them the very best opportunity in life, so moved the family back to UK, despite having a fairly comfortable existence in Phnom Penh, but by no means close to an NGO all...
Re: Phuket
The only thing I remember about Phuket was I was supposed to be there on December 26th, but the school kept on changing the holiday dates and I forfeited the flight and flew elsewhere. How very fortunate for Khmer440. Lucky escape Vlad. I was in Khao Lak on 25th. Boarded a live aboard dive boat tha...

Re: Where to find a good Hamburger?
Supreme burger was a bit of a let down. Nice fries (the 'supreme' fries) but the 2 patties in the supreme burger were small so there was a lot of bun to the burger. I left still hungry. Maybe I'm just greedy though.

Re: On Being Back
Back in the hacienda days when i first visited the KOW in 2002 (think expat 0.5 quaff quaff), it was alot more intetesting, but there was ALOT more desperation in the air. In Phnom Penh i always remember that whenever you left a restaurant, moto drivers were circling like sharks in anticipation and...
