There is a so-called photo journalist based in Siem Reap who claimed through his images that Agent Orange had been used in the west of Cambodia...
But then, the same guy used migrant workers heading back to Poipet for a photo set on human trafficking...

Re: Kampong Phluk history
I have also been looking (albeit not exhausting the world's resources) for historic info on Kompong Khleang a little further down the shore of the Tonle Sap.
I wonder whether there might be some French historical records somewhere?
Hmm.

Re: Nasty, cheating people
Sorry but I don't feel that the OP must put up with it or leave. They were making a statement on something that is very relevant to all of us on this forum, but nobody seems to be able to elaborate on it very well. I know that shooting down will follow, but I do agree with the OP that greed is so ex...

Yeah I'm with Horace on this one. Nothing to do is the most interesting part.
I have a love of wondering around these dull towns. Pretending to sample the different coffee at each store.
Sisophon is cool, so is Kompong Thom.

Re: Any Cambodians in the UK
It isn't really designed for you to just walk in and pass it. It's like any standardised test these days. Buy the revision book if there is one, go through all the multiple choice sample questions until you can answer every one of them correctly, and then walk in and blitz the actual test. I remembe...

Re: Financial transparency with Khmer wives/girlfriends
I have been married to a local young woman for two years now. Some of that time I have spent in the UK working. Her family, and aunties have asked for nothing. In fact over the last two years I have benefited financially much more than they have. I have been told, almost ordered really, by her famil...

Re: inform village chief before stay??
Reporting back... just for the record.
It was all waived. Everything that seemed the rules all of a sudden wasn't necessary.
Dropped by the big man anyway - he remembered me from my wedding so all was fine!

Re: inform village chief before stay??
Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah it's the wife wife. Married there. and yes it is on the edges of the lake. but not floating. I've heard through her aunties it's so that the police officer can drop by and bring a 'form' for me to fill in. This was the only bit that made me a little unhappy about it...

inform village chief before stay??
My Khmer wife is well educated, never have any weird happenings. Stayed at her large village a good few times before.
Today the village chief informed her that he needs to grant permission for me to stay there 2 nights, so we must tell him before rocking up.
Is this right? Seems a bit odd to me...

Re: The Cambodia Daily - Is it independent?
a bit off topic, but having just seen this thread last night it helped me notice today's online cover shot. The selfie of both party leaders doing the rounds over the weekend featured both of them smiling. The CD have chosen to run the slightly more miserable one, with only Rainsy smiling. What a fu...

Re: Major Power Outage Siem Reap
The picture is definitely the road between Siem Reap and Thailand. The pylons run parallel to it, not perpendicular. Think about it... I can confirm that Siem Reap has been out of power since late afternoon 15/03/2015. As in, proper black out. The city's generator has been on, providing sighs of rel...

Number of empty passport pages needed.
I'm heading back to Cambodia, just for a visit soonish. However I only have five spare pages in my passport. Does anyone know whether the folks at the border will be funny about this?
Is there a minimum amount of empty pages needed?
