Re: Advise a newbie: What teaching materials should I bring?
Books. Grammar, other books. Maybe you can get a book that will help young khmers enjoy reading, but I don't know if that is possible.

Tamao
What is the best way to get to Tamao if you have about 8 people? We are going from Phnom Penh. How much do Tuk Tuks usually cost to go there?

Re: Any BBQ places open over KNY?
Most of the places by Royal Rotanak Hospital were closed but a couple were open this evening. So if you are still in the mood for some BBQ, you can probably find something.

Re: Advice on buying meat and vegetables at local markets?
If you want better prices on the fruits and vegetables, don't go to markets that have a lot of barangs, like Russian Market or Central Market. All of the sellers there know to overcharge. If you go to a place that white people rarely go and nobody speaks English, you are much more likely to get a no...

Re: Motodop Rates & One pissed off driver
What is the most you would pay for a motodop? I never know what to pay them and I get so many different quotes from different motodops. How much should one spend for a trip from Toul Kork to Russian Market?

Re: The Cambodian Public School System
I've heard of people here in Cambodia who went to a school that didn't have the Cambodia high school certificate and now they have problems with getting into a college. They got a better education at the school they went to, but they can't afford to go overseas to study and Cambodian universities ca...

Re: tefl etc
I'm surprised at all of the negative remarks. Sure, his first post had some glaring capitalization and punctuation errors, but no major grammatical errors. I also get very tired of the comments of "How do you expect to teach English if you haven't studied education or English at University?" Everybo...

Re: Secret Santa
I ended up getting a couple of shirts and ties. I hope the shirts fit. I got a lamp/bank (for keeping all of my coins in) shaped like some cartoon character. Some other guy I know got plastic flowers stuck in styrofoam.

Secret Santa
So at work we drew names for Secret Santa. I drew a name of a Khmer guy (20's). I've never talked with him before. What is a good gift to get a guy that is between $5 and $10? (Also the party is taking place at a kindergarten school before a Christmas program, so please don't suggest booze.)

Re: Does the length of TEFL training matter in finding work?
TEFL courses don't seem to mean much at all in Cambodia, especially since it isn't required for a VISA at all. Vietnam and China are much more worried about having a certificate. Experience seems to be much more important to employers anywhere.
