Re: Myanmar Conflict
The loss of Myawaddy is biting hard. It appears the Junta has set their sights on recapturing Myawaddy (for various reasons, other major towns lost by the Junta are more difficult to recover and have less PR value). Oddly, the Junta has reportedly named the campaign 'Operation Aung Zeya', a referenc...

Re: Weeping in Ramallah
I am concerned that both the Israeli strike on the Iranian consultate in Syria and the Iranian drone/missile response are calculated steps by both parties to increase tension.

Re: Myanmar Conflict
A long time yet, however Min Aung Hlaing must be one or two major defeats away from a putsch; Sittwe, Mitkyina, Lashio, Hpa-An, Hakha, Loikaw, Muse. Hell, maybe even Ann or Bhamo would do it.

Re: Myanmar Conflict
How long can the junta hold out? In Myawaddy? It appears the remnants of Light Infantry Battalion 275 collapsed early this morning. Still awaiting a formal announcement from the KNLA. Apparently some members of LIB 275 are at Friendship Bridge #2 trying to cross to Thailand, which I assume means th...

Re: Myanmar Conflict
The Tatmadaw are reportedly making a last stand in Myawadday, with the bridge to Mae Sot and most of the town already fallen to KNLA/PDF. A large Tatmadaw convoy left Thaton and was seen passing Hpa-An, most likely on its way to relieve Tatmadaw forces in Myawaddy, though it is uncertain if there wi...

Re: Myanmar Conflict
The Karen National Liberation Army with the Peoples Defence Force reportedly yesterday took the HQ of the 275th Infantry Battalion at Thin Gan Nyinaung, which lies immediately West of Myawaddy on the main highway. Hpapun was a loss of prestige for the Junta (they took the town from the Karen in 1955...

Re: Ukraine
There is an interesting article in Al Jazeera that looks at South Asians fighting in the Russo-Ukrainian War. The article finds the primary motivation to be financial, with little to no ideology involved. There is a human trafficking element (not disimilar to the thread on the scam centres), though ...

Re: 5000+ Indians trapped in cyberscam work in Cambodia
Economic incentives in host nations keeps these people enslaved, whilst political expediency in victims' home nations provides pressure for their salvation. Hence the importance of movies and social media, as politicians are rather sensitive about their professional longevity. As a motivator, Modi's...

Re: Myanmar Conflict
I'm struggling to keep up with the pace of Junta township losses, however two significant towns fell yesterday; Loije, one of only five official border crossings to Yunnan in Kachin State fell to the Kachin Indepence Army (KIA), and Hpapun, a key town that sits between the territories of the Karenni...

Re: 5000+ Indians trapped in cyberscam work in Cambodia
Cambodia had a mention yesterday on a CNN piece on SE Asia human trafficking
https://edition.cnn.com/2024/03/28/asia ... index.html
It cites 120,000 people trapped in Myanmar alone, with another 100,000 in other parts of SE Asia.
