Re: Myanmar and Laos visas
I got a visa before for Myanmar at the embassy in Phnom Penh, cost was $20. This TravelFish article says it is still $20 at the embassy while mentioning the $50 e-Visa: https://www.travelfish.org/orientation_detail/cambodia/phnom_penh_and_surrounds/phnom_penh/phnom_penh/108 But that is from Feb 2016...

Re: No Joke Howard in PP
He's arguably the most significant foreigner to impact Cambodia since Henry Kissinger so logically people are going to talk about him.

It's in the search suggestions:
I get that in incognito mode, so it's not just my search preferences.
Also I think Spit was referring to Google Now on a phone, where it is indeed #2:

Re: Possible soft-drink poisoning, beware!
Glad you went to the doctor and got a proper diagnosis. Everyone should do this, it isn't that expensive and it honestly could be the difference between life and death. Important in this country to go to a competent doctor, which can be a bit tricky, I've had potentially life threatening misdiagnose...

Re: Extending a tourist visa in Phnom Penh?
The rules have changed since then, I went down there again last year and (1) you now need a full Vietnamese visa to enter Ha Tien and (2) the Cambodians absolutely would not stamp me out unless I had the Vietnamese visa. I even tried offering an extra $20 tea money but they wouldn't do it. That is o...

That's nonsense, a can of Coke is net hydrating.spitthedog wrote:Your body expends twice the water contained in a can of coke in order to deal with the acidity level of the drink. Plus caffiene is itself a diuretic.

Re: cross country on bicycle?
Prices are OK here but Thailand is a bit cheaper for Western bike stuff. If you want a cheap beater bike though the shops around Orussey Market are very good value and will sell you something old but reliable, you can get something decent for as little as $50.

Re: Laptop shop recommendations
I went down Kampuchea Krom this afternoon and the shops would sell a 1TB laptop drive for $72-80 plus $5-10 for drive cloning and installation (so get laptop back with system running as is but more space). So $82-85 total. If I do get it done I'll probably get it done in Lucky Computer who were $85 ...

Re: Cheap, non-fake headphones?
Thanks for all the advice. I had a good hunt around and couldn't find the $60 Sony balanced armature headphones I was looking for but picked up a replacement set of Samsungs which seem identical to the ones I got with the phone for $5 on Kampuchea Krom. I'll probably pick up the $60 Sonys when I get...
