This is worth reading as it clarifies differences and types of titles.

Re: Differences between Hard and Soft land Titles/Deeds
Hi The Peck A few points to add 1. Soft titles are issued by either the commune or the district level - I'm unsure whether a district title is "better" than a commune recognised soft title. 2. If you are negotiating to buy a property with a soft title you can try to negotiate (and hence pay more) fo...

Re: old khmer timber house??
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check out Champa Lodge and Snowy's when next in Kampot.
Perhaps easier to build a place out of recycled timber? Nothing too fancy but want reasonable workmanship (if possible)!

old khmer timber house??
Hi all I am wondering whether it's worth buying an old Khmer timber home and relocating it to a block of land in the country side. I don't have a house in mind, just interested to learn of other people's experiences or thoughts. Has anyone ever done this? Did the house survive the move relatively we...

Re: Real estate in Kampot
Hi, you can try posting an advert on the Kep and Kampot facebook group page. You're more likely to receive replies from expats who know of vacancies or who are about to vacate their rental.

Re: *** FOR SALE *** Indian Restaurant in Kampot
I think Kampot is slowly on the up and up. I can also recommend Cafe Espresso for a decent coffee.

Re: Swiftlet nest business
I've noticed some variation in the buzzing sound. Some of the "buildings" in the back streets of Kep seem to emit a more electronic buzzing sound that travels several hundred metres (perhaps depending on wind direction) whereas others seem to have more of a birdsong tune (at least initially). Mind y...

Re: Swiftlet nest business
There are several of these "businesses" in Kampot and Kep. I find the buildings to be an eyesore and I am surprised some tourist vendors haven't complained about them. There are a few of these ugly, windowless buildings dotted in the back streets (and occasionally in the centre of town) of Kep and K...

Re: carpenter recommendation please
Hi
Yeah the sanding job is extensive - lots of doors, windows etc. If it were one I'd probably do it myself......

carpenter recommendation please
Hi
Is anyone able to recommend a carpenter who has high quality workmanship?
I need one new door to be made and installed (to match existing doors) as well as some timber to be sanded and an exterior lacquer/oil applied (I will supply the lacquer/oil).
English not required.
Many thanks

Re: Water sealant?
Hi The French building materials shop called CFC (Compagnie Francaise de Commerce) at 178 National Road No. 5 has clear external timber decking stuff (last time I was there they stocked both acrylic based and water based ones). They suggested Renacryl Lazure Acrylic for my external staircase and shu...

external timber protective coating - what to use?
Hi all, I have some external timber stairs and shutters at my place. They were previously coated with something but it has really only lasted one rainy season and the coating has ?shrunk/disappeared in places and exposed some of the timber to the elements. What to do? Sand back and use a water based...
