Re: Where to buy Atripla / Viraday HIV medication?
Atripla (Emtricitabine 200mg - Tenofovir 300mg - Efavirenz 600mg) is not available at Pharmacie de la Gare but they DO SELL over the counter TRUVADA tablets (Emtricitabine 200mg - Tenofovir 300mg) and they DO SELL Efavirenz 600mg tablets. Problem solved ! The price of TRUVADA is US $ 160 for 30 tab...

Re: Where to buy Atripla / Viraday HIV medication?
Atripla or any other combination that contains Emtricitabine is not available in Cambodia. You could get it until a few years ago but not anymore. Don’t ask me why – politics. If your friend is planning to stay in Cambodia he will have to switch to Tenofovir/Lamivudine/Efavirenz. That won’t be a pro...

Re: Kids career
Logos is run by Asian Hope which is an American organization. They regard it as their mission to provide Cambodians with a good education and convert them to Christianity. Therefore a lot of the kids are Cambodians and, yes, they get Jesus stuffed down their throats. Hope is run by a board of Christ...

Re: Kids career
I've heard it's a good school but from looking at their site it looks a bit heavy on the religious angle. Many of these Christian schools ask what church you attend and who your pastor is etc when you want to enroll a kid. How much of an emphasis do they put on it in the classes etc? Well, it's a C...

Re: Kids career
First of all, Footprints is not an international school: 99 percent of the kids are Cambodian, teachers are mostly from the Phillipines with the odd Westerner with a vaguely formulated CV among them, children are taught to speak pidgin English. Their enrolment tests are a joke. There are worlds betw...

Re: Termites
I don't know what they are, I can't actually see them but they must be very small and cause dust by boring holes in the wood. They only seem to have gone for the cheap pine sort of wooden slats, not the hardwood. Not termites. They don’t leave holes as they never get out of their tunnels. Asian ter...

Re: Termites
Are you sure that those are termites? Temites in Cambodia are subterranean. If your bed had been attacked by termites you would see those galleries leading from cracks in the walls or in the tiling of the floor to your bed. Movable furniture is usually the last thing they attack, they prefer easier ...

Re: Best hospital for premature baby?
Our son was born during the 7th month at Calmette. My wife showed up there in the middle of the night with a strange pain in her belly and they did an emergency Ceasarean at 3am. All went well. There are lots of horror stories being told about Calmette but fact is they do have incubators and an oper...

Re: Best hospital for premature baby?
Kantha Bopha, Calmette and Sen Sok have incubators. I’m not sure about the Japanese hospital (peet japon). Forget about the usual Western places like SOS or Royal Rattanak, they are not equipped.LTO wrote:What is the best hospital in Phnom Penh for a severely premature infant?

Re: Name that place (it's been a while)
Do people live there? Seems perfect for a photoshoot. It’s a long, stretched French-era building with an all round gallery on the second floor. Seems to have been divided into segments after the KR, each family altered their part to their use, bricked up the gallery, replaced the roof tiles with co...

Re: Name that place (it's been a while)
That burned-out roof truss is definitely on the Western side of Kantha Bopha IV. I spend weeks staring at it while I had been in hospital with my sons. My second son’s first word was “sva” – he said it when he saw some monkeys playing on it. I've never seen the front of the building though.

Re: Funny Khmer (English) names
Don't forget the classic: Am Rong (1929 - May 1975) was a Cambodian soldier and filmmaker, who acted as a spokesman on military matters for the Khmer Republic during the Cambodian Civil War. Western journalists commented on the irony of his name as he gave briefings which "painted a rosy picture of ...
