Re: Some questions about living in rural Cambodia
There's no need to travel to somewhere like upcountry Pursat or Preah Vihear when places like Kampot and Battambang rapidly give way to countryside. Westerners do not want to be further than 30 minutes from the provincial town for medical reasons and also to make the grocery run less strenuous. I sa...

Re: His Excellent Highway
All these satellite city plans are doomed to fail because all the jobs that pay enough to buy a house/shopfront/apartment within are in the city center. Why? People working in the city or wherever chose to live/ buy in the satellite cities as they generally provide a less congested and more pleasan...

Re: His Excellent Highway
Phnom Penh needs decent public transport. All these satellite city plans are doomed to fail because all the jobs that pay enough to buy a house/shopfront/apartment within are in the city center. Forgetting that all the planned office towers will be within the center too. 1. Raise the major roads in ...

Re: Some questions about living in rural Cambodia
Try one of the many village homestays offered in Siem Reap, Battambang, Kampong Cham or Kampot for a few weeks first. Aside from the excitement of KNY you will get very bored without a visit to a city once a week. People go to sleep at the fall of darkness and the food is rice with whatever the fami...

Re: The "Chinazation" of Cambodia
In the imperial days China had suzerainty over much of the region, Vietnam (proudly) an exception. America will not risk another land war in tropical Asia as the terrain itself increases casualties x10, but that doesn't mean they won't fund and arm rebel groups to meddle like in Syria. And then you ...

Re:
It is more complicated than that if you go back further in history. Sympathy is one thing, having a mindset of a group of people being an infestation is another. Having said that, I think the entire human race is an infestation. And I am so bored of lazy responses slinging the word liberal out ever...

Re: Aung San not living up to her name after 1 year in power
The simple fact is many of the Rohingya are Bangladeshis who fled in 1970 or later due to economic reasons. And the Rohingya insurgents declared war on the Burmese government in 1948, not the other way around. The Western response to the situation is typically pig headed in the manner it has designa...

Re: Aung San not living up to her name after 1 year in power
Her inability to deal with the Rohingya situation is a blight but shouldn't determine her credibility as a leader. Burma is a massively diverse country and it must be a nightmare trying to hold it together unless you're a dictator. And even then the junta couldn't keep things completely under contr...

Re: Another Visa Overstay Question
I can't fathom the reason why you'd ever overstay more than a few days. It's simply pissing money away and if you were involved in anything illicit and requiring discretion, now the police will have more interest in you.

Chan Sy was supposedly poisoned before the heart issues, if the rumors are true.
Sovann was jailed for what appears to be refusing to acquiesce to the Vietnamese Communist orders for their puppet government in Cambodia - many accusations of "(Khmer) nationalism" thrown around in a negative tone.

Re: Another Visa Overstay Question
I don't think anyone who overstays by six months or more ever has the money to pay the fine. The fine for that would be $1,800. You could have extended the visa for six months for what, $180? $160 at Lucky ×2 So you could have been here legally for 6 months the same price as 16 days worth of fines....

Re: A car rammed the motorcycle, causing about 10 casualties
Well, with the vigilante justice, don't some people flee an accident for fear of that alone? And then, in doing so, he causes another. Did he die? i think a lot of the time they just don't want to admit they're wrong. almost dead this morning - every part of his body had some sort of injury. they b...

Re: Aleppo, Syria
Thanks, Edwardo. Do they mention who created ISIS? Or how systems that can find a single person in the desert cannot find a convoy of 100 vehicles flying the ISIS flag in broad daylight? Or how oil-tanker convoys travelling into Turkey can't be seen? I'll have a look at it, thanks again. If they tr...

Re: How many HIV tests have you had?
I can report that there are free tests at Pasteur after about 3pm - 4th generation tests with a 6 week latency period after contact - and at Mens' Health Cambodia, all day - rapid tests with a 3 month latency period.
