At any time Lucky Lucky would have over a couple of hundred passports. Never heard of one go missing yet. Sending them one via a courier company or giving it to them via a third person (friend) or handing over in person all the same risk IMO.

If the visa is expired you are out of luck. Other wise you can send your passport back and have the Visa extended without you in the country. I have done this several times no problems.
