Re: Michael Vickery
Just wanted to come back briefly to pay my respects to Michael. He was a remarkable guy, full of piss and vinegar and I particularly enjoyed meeting him over a drink or two where his thoughts would inevitably turn to the many women he had caroused with, and the many more he had wanted to tumble but ...

Re: RIP LTO
LTO was a fount of wisdom and knowledge about Cambodia, scrupulously ethical, strongly opinionated yet able to maintain objective and able to appreciate others' points of view and change his ideas when a strong case was made. In person he was friendly, intelligent, funny and easy to get along with. ...

I can give examples and pics of both where vegetation is used to stop erosion . Your call? We're talking major rivers in sub-tropical lowland/floodplain Southeas...

Re: filling deep land by a river next to a bridge
Pretty much. And this is one of the more difficult aspects, as rivers change naturally and can be heavily influenced by manmade actions as well, including actions taken thousands of kilometers away that reduce sediment load, for example. You can't drill to bedrock, since rivers flow in sedimentary ...

Re: How do you perceive other 440ers?
My position is clear: I hate religious nutters of any persuasion, dictators, Nazis, land-grabbers, child-murderers, terrorists from any background, slimy politicians, financial manipulators, false democrats and human rights abusers. If my views are untenable with certain posters on this forum who s...

Re: Siem Reap expat arrested in Australia re historic child disappearance case
He's been named in a few places as Tony Munro, owner of Station Wine Bar. Tony Munro recently came out as a lovely, lovely man, which only increases the chances he's involved in something gross like this. Another idiotic comment like that, and you'll be history here. Yes, because having already pos...

Re: Why are Khmer people so keen to buy cows?
Kinard and Hanno answered your question. It's a form of rural savings, essentially. You don't want to keep cash lying around where it can be stolen, so you buy a cow. Then you can liquidate the cow when you require money for a health problem, wedding, whatever. The cow can have a calf too, which is ...

Re: Thai Crown Prince Wears Midriff Revealing Wifebeater
so we really have no idea when these shots were taken I was thinking that too. I couldn't find any reference to the incident when I searched earlier. Obviously it is the crown prince though, and I'm surprised that he would go around in such a state. It's shameful, he is embarrassing his family and ...

Re: German police kill mentally ill child in cold blood
Hey JC I'm sorry for being aggro and rude. I'll try to calm down now. That'd be nice. I was simply providing some minor input into a larger discussion. I have not claimed to have the answer nor have I claimed that Canada is Utopia. I have also noted that I'm not well-informed or knowledgeable about...
