Re: Another how easy can i teach thread
I looked at Korea, Saudi Arabia, some South American countries etc. I was under the impression that S. Korea was stricter than average, from conversations with a couple of people. I know a few people teaching in Saudi Arabia, they've all told me that it's easy to get turned down for a work visa, bu...

Re: Another how easy can i teach thread
Actually, having worked in Japan (5yrs) an Korea (2yrs).... You would find it very, very difficult in Korea. Most of the better jobs in Korea, REQUIRE a degree before even looking at anything else, not to mention a SHITLOAD paper work (CRC, results, references, resident certificate, health check......

Re: Another how easy can i teach thread
This is probably one of the few places on the planet where you'd find a school (at least they'll call it that!) who would hire you without getting some kind of training first. Actually, this is extremely common in this part of the world. Thailand, China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam - they all do it. I qu...

Re: Scam Recruitment Adverts
We had this with Hilton hotel in London last year. The address to send money for visa etc was in Lagos. I got the PPP to run an article on it - might contact them again this weekend. Yes, I read your other posts in the thread, andy. If it's Lagos then, we can just about forget it. The Nigerian CID ...

Re: Scam Recruitment Adverts
A Cambodian friend just responded to one of these ads placed by 'Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts' offering jobs in both London and Phnom Penh. He was offered a post in London for £5000 - £6000 a month, but fortunately even before the inevitable request for money, he had enough nous to smell a (N...

Re: Visa fees
You lot are living in a country which has some of the easiest and most tolerant immigration regulations in the region, and you are still bitching and griping about the cost. Try living in Thailand, Indonesia, or Vietnam if you really want to experience visa hassles.

Re: National Insurance Contributions (for the Brits)
You can, at the moment, make back payment of contributions for any years missed - up to a maximum of six years provided payment is made within 6 years. There doesn't seem to be much point though, with the change in the regulations. As to protecting your right to free treatment under the National Hea...

Re: National Insurance Contributions (for the Brits)
This government is proposing to scrap the system whereby state pension is paid based on number of years N.I. contributions, reduced from 40 years to 30 (to get the maximum amount), by the previous Labour administration. Instead everyone will receive a flat rate of £140 per week and eligibility will ...

Yes. That is he.
Not a bullshit rumour. His landlord just phoned me to give me the news. He had had a heart condition for several years. The Consulate and his brother in Indonesia have been informed.

Tim Francis RIP
I have just heard that Tim Francis died from a heart attack in Phnom Penh last night. He had had a heart condition for some years. His most recent incarnation on this board was as Rhoel. Very sad, as he had just embarked on a new business venture for which he had high hopes.
RIP Tim.
