Help... need instant Khmer dancing lesson
I'm attending a Khmer wedding tomorrow, at very short notice. I don't know what happens in them other than rumours of hours of kneeling, but apparently I may be expected to dance. Can anyone suggest a contact for a quick dancing lesson today (Wednesday)? Just to get a few tips so I don't appear like...

Fake Iphones
Definitely not an iPod Touch. They are much slimmer. It looked identical to my iPhone 4. Perhaps she was pulling my leg and it was a real one. But I'm pretty sure along the top edge of the screen it showed two signal strength icons, as she said it was dual SIM phone. I should have examined it more c...

Fake Iphones
I had seen and played with a few very poor iPhone copies in PP. Then a couple of days ago a girl in a bar (!) showed me her $135 iPhone 4 copy. I was really impressed. It was definitely running the Apple operating system, and the screen resolution was excellent (I couldn't tell it apart from my 4S w...

Do you think we should go for it?
Depends what you want out of life for the next year or so. If you want money, this has the potential to generate a lot more income than teaching. But this money comes at a personal cost. You hate karaoke. You will be surrounded all day by ghastly singing and possibly by some equally obnoxious custom...

Problem: students completely unable to tackle course book?
Thanks for all your suggestions and advice. I can see I'm going to have to be a lot more flexible in my approach, have lower expectations, and do a lot more pre-lesson preparation adapting the course book to a level that the students can cope with. I guess my initial shock was that these were suppos...

Problem: students completely unable to tackle course book?
I've just started teaching speaking and listening skills at a local university to Years 1-3 English Language degree students. I was hired despite zero teaching experience - perhaps that should have raised alarm bells for me. In my first ever teaching class last week it became apparent within five mi...

Where to get decent moto helmet?
Wow. Expensive. I ended up getting a Swiss Uvex helmet at Vannak Motorcycles for $25, which makes me suspect it's possibly not genuine, but the quality is MUCH better than the cheapo skid-lids. It even had German writing inside for that added authenticity. They also had 'Italian' AGV's for $25. Than...

disciplining Khmer staff AND saving 'face'
Do it like you'd do in the West. Ask her into your office, tell her what's going on, give her the consequences if you catch her at it again. I think this is a good way to do it. The important thing is not to discipline her in front of her subordinates. By having a private discussion with her, she d...

Where to get decent moto helmet?
Any suggestions as to where I can get a decent moto helmet, rather than the $15 flexy-salad-bowl worthless items? Preferably with some kind of safety stamps (like Snell etc)? Also need a good cable lock or 'U' clamp style lock for a moto. Someone mentioned a French shop that sells good helmets but t...

Haha. Yes I'm sure that thought has crossed his mind. Fortunately the girlfriend role has already been filled.andyinasia wrote:The scam is on the way - the motodop's next job is to find him a rental professional girlfriend from Zapata to share the apartment.

Re: Standard Cambodian scams?
It's not a "scam". Call it a finder's fee or a commission, it's normal in just about every country on the planet. The amounts being discussed are between the owner and the agent (motodup). Up to you to haggle what you think is a fair price. Looks like you've done that so well done. I'm confused tho...
