Saw that. Their decent looked more acrobatic than military. Those were commandos? I thought maybe a Smart promo or something like that.Felgerkarb wrote:Flash bangs and commando drops. They did this a few days ago too over Olympic Stadium from those helos circling around. Interesting.

Re: explosions across the city
Heard it here near Phsar Olympic. Sounded like two, quite large, though the second may have been an echo. Went outside to look. Saw white smoke rising from the direction of Olympic Stadium, but I am not sure if it was connected. People on the street seemed unperturbed by it, just going about there b...

Re: New Zealand tourist Christopher James Adams dies of an overdose
I can do better than that. So long we are doing history, a few years back there was a room invasion there in which some Japanese tourists were robbed in their room (at gunpoint I think) and held hostage for a short while. May have been assaulted too. I don't recall. Still not a flophouse. Still not ...

Re: New Zealand tourist Christopher James Adams dies of an overdose
...I note that article did not provide any details about how he died. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11736268 Perhaps sensitive to the cause given by Cambodian authorities. I am more than a little disbelieving that a family man with 2 young children dies from a ...

Re: French tourist Alain Pollidoro found dead in Le Grand Mekong hotel
There are an inordinate number of young(ish) men dying of heart attacks at hotels in the riverfront area. Be interesting to see it plotted on a map.

Re: Whats your MBTI personality type?
ENTP Personality (“The Debater”) https://www.16personalities.com/entp-personality Yeah I can see that, though I think I am generally a bit easier on others feelings than the description. OTOH, I like this part. Spot on about the logic of arguing the other side: An odd juxtaposition arises with ENTPs...

Re: Nate Thayer speaks out on Cambodia
Nate is way, way off the reservation here, and good on him. Honestly curious...on what exactly is he "way off the reservation" here? I didn't hear anything new. Cambodia is a French creation and KH leadership is shit? So what? More provocative things are said on 440. And what reservation? With all ...

Re: Nate Thayer speaks out on Cambodia
Those comments weren't all that provocative, IMO. Colin Meyn and Mike Hayes have caused the government infinitely more embarrassment and grief over much more specific things than his general comments about Cambodian leadership in that vid.

Hmmm. How many foreign jounalists have been assassinated here, or even arrested and expelled?

Re: Nate Thayer speaks out on Cambodia
Personally I would value the safety of my family over that. As I've said before -- and as Nate reaffirmed in the video -- Cambodians have the government they deserve. So he is not barred from returning then? On the subject of being "officially banned from returning", the Rain Man seemed to have joi...

Re: Nate Thayer speaks out on Cambodia
Is he actually banned from entering the country? Maybe from the Phnom Penh Post office, but I don't think I ever heard that he was officially barred from entering Cambodia. Yeah, me neither. I don't recall reading that Nate Thayer was officially persona non grata as Joel Brinkley (may he RIP) was. ...

Re: Problems with business visa
How does one get a business license and tax registration while holding only a tourist visa? Pay the fee for a business license and tax registration, if any? There are fees. But you may be correct. I am not sure if one is required a visa at all. But I do recall when registering my own various licens...
