Re: Blind but excited!!!
Standads for English teachers in Cambodia are low. You will be fine but it may take a while to earn enough to cover your expenditure. Make sure you have $5k behind you. 5k would be ample for any eventuality over your first 2 or 3 months. As long as you have money set aside for a flight home (or eve...

Cable in Battambang was amazing value. $23/Year. From the company not a neighbour. Rent can be dirt cheap in the provinces too. The OP really needs to look at him/herself a bit though when complaining that $250/month is expensive. Complaining? Steady on. I'm comparing 2 things and saying one is mor...

There's a very good (and famous) borbor canteen style place in one of the streets going north from Russian market, has road bumps on it. Order it with sliced fishcake, the specialty. Simple, non- flavoured, white rice porridge costs 500 riel per bowl. You've got to order other stuff with it, such a...

PB told me opposite the Paragon, the BBQ beef places. He never fibs. Cheapest I know is 6k. Had a Tiger rocket in SR last Friday for 7USD! A bowl of bobor here seems to cost me 5,000 riel. Either you added a '0' too much (for borbor saw, plain porridge) or you're getting a very cheap bobor sam jok ...

I'm always a little surprised when people say Cambodia is more expensive than Thailand.. I pay $160-170 /4800 baht for a HUGE 2-story apartment in the center of PP with a nice balcony. Last apartment I had in Bangkok (way out in Rachada) I paid 4500 baht for a tiny room. I have never spent less mon...

Wine and top shelf spirits are a lot cheaper in Cambodia. Decent western restaurants are better value as well. If you are a teacher then this cost benefit might not be applicable to you. Hey yeah good spot! Points for wines and spirits being cheaper!! Wine in particular is crazy expensive in Thaila...

Firstly, rent is a LOT more expensive Damn right. Locals have very many fine qualities but conversely they are often stupidly rapacious. If you think the rental market is unrealistic, check the real estate prices. Welcome to the board, btw. Thanks very much  and yes i've had a little look ar...

You're off the mark. Cambodia is going for a higher class kind of expat than Thailand, that's all. Thanks for your reply. With due respect I don't think I was off the mark  What I mean/meant was that the (relatively) high costs are not soley down to inflation. That there was another reason, ...

Hello everyone! I have just arrived in Cambodia with the intent of working here teaching English for a few months to a year. I moved over from Chiang Mai in Thailand where I had been living and teaching for 6 months. My first impressions are that life is quite different here than in Thailand. I had ...
