Re: First post, need info regarding teaching
U don't get points for creativity. Just copy EXACTLY what they show u. They never ever taught us any grammar, and we barely had to teach it. Knowing the grammar backwards and forwards wouldn't have helped one bit. They would rather u have to look at ur lesson plan 100 times in ur demos than try to ...

Re: First post, need info regarding teaching
I did mine through International House in Saigon/HCMC for $1350. No housing included.... That's a nice price. My SEETEFL cert cost me $1,295 (no accom.). Chiang Mai was pretty cool. If you're interested in teaching in Thailand, Ajarn is a pretty useful site. There's a CELTA on Phuket advertised on ...

Re: First post, need info regarding teaching
How much is a CELTA? If you want to use a comparative term like "cheaper", we'll need something to compare it to!cambod wrote:Out of curiosity, does anyone have a link to a 4-week course that is cheaper than a celta?

Re: First post, need info regarding teaching
EY, I agree, but in most cases one would have to lie about having a degree, right? If you put all your cards honestly on the table, do you not expect a Khmer admin to bargain/ take advantage because of your blatantly weaker situation? Yonks ago, when I worked at PUC, I signed a form which basically...

Re: First post, need info regarding teaching
My Financial situation is very good at the moment. It's just I've heard CELTA's are incredibly hard especially with no previous experience. If you have the time and the money, do the course. It can't hurt! But if you are serious about teaching in a school for any length of time, a reputable TEFL ce...

Re: First post, need info regarding teaching
I'm at a time in my life where I'm not tied down to anything, I can't say the same in 4 years time when I finish. I'd rather just teach with a TEFL and no BA as it is not required in Cambodia to find a job. If however I wanted to teach elsewhere ofc I'd get one Let's clear something up here. A BA w...

Re: First post, need info regarding teaching
Also, I'm expecting about 10 dollars an hour, should I be expecting less without a BA? Yes. As we are using the word "expect", I guess this is subjective. So, with all due respect to Vlad, I would categorically disagree and say that it is very possible to find $10/h without a degree. I know many pe...

If beer was against the law in Cambodia, I would be in full support of it. Although it would depend on which law beer was against, of course.

Re: Standard Cambodian scams?
I don't know how easy it is to get a reasonable apartment here short term, which is why I seized this one - it was way better than the rest I had seen, and I thought maybe demand for apartments was high... Very easy, actually. It's one of those things though. When you are new in any place and you d...

Re: First post, need info regarding teaching
I've got a hotel for the first two weeks; likely I could extend that if I needed to. There is a guy called "Art the Homefinder" who helps expats find apartments, he is supposed to meet with me the first week. I have no clue if he is the most ideal resource for apartment hunting, but I guess I'll co...

Re: First post, need info regarding teaching
, not sure what someone with a CELTA got that I didn't with my TEFL. Anyone? The name "University of Cambridge" on it. That is practically where English came from, right? ;-D I'm sure there's a lot of "space training camps around the world, but I'd want my certificate to say NASA on it..... I asked...
