I did some chef work in Phnom Penh this year.
I wouldnt waste money on expensive knives, If there being used in a commercial kitchen they will go missing.,
Kiwi brand knives are cheap, easy to keep sharp and easy to find (Every market place).

iphone in Phnom Penh
Go to rogue to get it unlocked. They sell iPhones too. 3rd floor sorya sells new iPhones too. Check for the warranty card when you buy. On a similar topic - Ive had my iPhone (original) for 3 years and the battery hasn't taken too kindly to tropical heat and constant kitchen heat. Is it possible to ...

Insurance
My boss just got a package with infinity insurance. 50yr old smoker, full medivac (fly out) and motorbike accident cover for around $420p/m. Premium was quite high though. I think around the 4-5k mark.
Pretty glad I negotiated insurance into my contract haha

Re: Grilled Eggs
I always eat these when I hear them coming... From what I know, they empty the contents out through the small hole in top then add typical Cambodian spices - salt, kampot pepper, kaffir lime. It's pretty basic ingredients, I'm sure if you just put a hole in the top and gently stirred in spices you c...

Saw shucking knives at Veggys on 240 the other day. On the counter next to the till. Their wholesale pricelists indicate they sell oysters at a good price too.

You gotta publish this stuff. Your descriptions are so specific but not so much as to make you lose interest. I've been working all day but have been trying to find a break every couple of hours to read another entry. Bring on the next lot. Both countries blogs were great but I found LOS was a littl...

I got a 3rd floor, pretty new, 1 bedroom apartment on the corner of 178 and norodom (behind gym bar) for $270 including water and cable. Power only 720r/kw too. Last bill was $22.
Not much noise, good view of norodom, sorya and Pasteur area and decently furnished.

Re: The price of beef
Got delivery from Mrs Smokey today. A bit of a stumble out of the box as they could neither prepare patties nor deliver except in 1kg bags (a small inconvenience), and only deliver the bags frozen (more of a big deal). Will give it a try but there is a reason In-N-Out is freezer-free. m hmm that's ...

Re: Taking the Barang for a ride?
Yeah there is a higher Cintri fee for a guesthouse but $150 is a bit steep isn't it? They originally charged us $25 The first power bill was only $150 ( this was the month that the Reno took place with power tools running non stop for 2 weeks ) I'm guessing it's the thieving neighbours due to the me...

I use smokey dah boar in 2 restaurants atm, they have 2 types of ground beef, standard & lean and I've never had a problem with them. Their sausages are great and have a decent selection. It's a kiwi guy and his Vietnamese wife running the show at a farm just outta town. The wife goes to Vietnam ev...
