Maybe she had something similar going with daddy when she was 13. But he really loved her, so it wasn't wrong? Something along these lines.gavinmac wrote: His family is remarkably supportive. I don't think my sister would congratulate me on having sex with a 13 year old girl, dating her for five years from prison, and getting engaged to her.

Fun and jokes aside, we all have lived in a civilized society somewhere out West of here...so we know the laws state the difference between right and wrong, and at what age sexual consent is considered legal. For this country he went to jail for it. But doing jail time is supposed to be a reflection of your crimes and so he should have learnt from this whole experience and rehabilitated from it.
It's a little odd that his family were supportive of him throughout this whole ordeal.
If a situation were to arise where he finds himself repeating the same offense, what then?

Yeah, too fucking much. She has a Facebook page full of his relatives. I used to see the guy around town, and would say hello to him. He was usually hanging around with white chicks, like the journalist from a certain English language paper which totally blanked the whole story. I was way creeped out when it turned out he had an underage girl living with him. I had a slight suspicion that he might have been set up, but this latest news on the engagement to a girl who looks barely legal has ridden me of any doubts. Fucking disgraceful.Joon wrote:Wtf overload.

So are there no links to old news stories? I don't remember this at all. This is pretty damn weird. How did he convince his family of his "innocence"? Are they all equally weird/inbred and thought he didn't do anything wrong in the first place, or did they fall for it when he told them: "Mom, you gotta understand, I really love this 13-year-old. It was love at first sight and because it's, it isn't wrong". I'm not sure who's weirder: his family or him. Or is there a chance that they never knew about him ending up in prison (if there were no news stories)?
The girl from Facebook looks a lot paler than either of the two girls in the pic from the courthouse. Then again, Cambodians like to use filters to make themselves look way whiter than they are. Is one of them the girl in question? Would be weird if police let them near each other during the hearings. Not too sure what to make of all this. Weird mess is what it is.

His family was aware of it, the local press in Michigan reported on it and talked to his family:

Where's the courthouse pic? If you mean the one with the green wall where he's talking to two girls and an older woman, I'm not sure that's the victim and family and didn't even know it was from the courthouse.

What DVD did he mooch, "Lolita"? Or was he more a fan of Roman Polanski's work?

I'm pretty sure that's how his family and close ones see this: a love story :\LexusSchmexus wrote:So are there no links to old news stories? I don't remember this at all. This is pretty damn weird. Hence the "book" talk, the "talk show" appearance, the "support." If you get a look at some of his relatives' timelines, they do seem to live in a fantasy world of "love conquers all."
Someone posted a reference to Mary Kay Letourneau. I'm pretty sure that's how he sees himself and his "ordeal."

This has got to be some sort of elaborate, sick joke. If not, then I hope this guy gets singled out to be crucified by US LEA upon his release.
Troll or not, is it necessary for the Khmer440 Admins to publish a link to the poor girl's Facebook account? In the West, it's customary to protect the identity of innocent rape victims. She may have agreed to marry him, but she's obviously not had the opportunity to recover from his abuse and is probably still severely damaged, thanks in no small part to the Cambodian prison authorities, for having allowed her rapist to maintain contact after his arrest.
I really feel sorry for his victim. At least now that he's over 40, he won't be allowed to marry her in Cambodia and there's no way he'll be getting a fiancee visa for her from the states. I imagine he'll be facing serious charges in the US upon his release, especially now that he's made a mockery of the 'punishment' meted out by the Cambodian authorities.
Jason Baumbach's entire family is insane, that much is clear.

lMAO he does indeed have something of S Stalone both in Rambo for the battalion idea and rocky if he started shooting Srei Pov !!! like the original did for Adrienne !!!! ArrghCapital_9 wrote:I wonder what's going on inside his head when that pic was shot. He probably figured he could take one of his captors if it was a fair one-on-one fight. Maybe even two. But to take the full battalion it would require some planning. If only he was given some time alone to contemplate such a plan for a few weeks or months...

We don't even know that she created the Facebook account that bears her photos. The fact that it's a Cambodian teenager's Facebook page with only one or two Cambodian friends listed speaks volumes. She's just a kid anyways and probably doesn't even realize what kind of disgusting freak show she's been sucked into.General-Z wrote:I only posted these updates, including the screenshots, because they have public profiles.Walter White wrote:

I'm starting to think it'd be a good idea to make pedophiles pay lifetime compensation to their victims.

That's an interesting question. The 2003 PROTECT Act allows the U.S. to punish American citizens who commit child sex crimes abroad. However, the Fifth Amendment protection against "double jeopardy," prohibits you from being tried and punished twice for the same crime. There is a "dual sovereignty" exception to double jeopardy, and the gist of that is if your actions violate the laws of the U.S. and another sovereign country, you can be tried in the U.S. after serving time in the foreign country.Walter White wrote:I imagine he'll be facing serious charges in the US upon his release, especially now that he's made a mockery of the 'punishment' meted out by the Cambodian authorities.
If the government wanted to prosecute him, they would argue that it's not double jeopardy based on dual sovereignty, he would argue that due process and double jeopardy and fundamental fairness preclude him from being charged in the U.S. after serving a lengthy prison term in Cambodia for the same conduct.
My hunch is that the U.S. government would not attempt to prosecute him any further. First, there's no evidence that he's the kind of serial pedophile typical "sex tourist" who travels to foreign countries to abuse multiple children, which is what the PROTECT Act was primarily intended to address. Second, prosecuting people for crimes committed 8,000 miles away is difficult and expensive, and they would need witnesses to testify against him, and it doesn't seem like this girl, the star witness, is going to be too cooperative. Third, he's already served seven years, it's not as if he got off scot free in Cambodia. Fourth, the government doesn't like to lose PROTECT Act cases, they go after low hanging fruit, the last thing they want to do is lose a case like this against a defendant who, on paper, might be more sympathetic than the typical sicko sex tourist, and they certainly don't want to set bad precedent, particularly on the double jeopardy point.
I just don't think a U.S. attorney is going to be too motivated to take the case.
Agreed.Walter White wrote: Jason Baumbach's entire family is insane, that much is clear.
