The bloggist at www.sweetcucumber.com has correctly drawn at attention to the number of infernal power outages this week. As a BKK1 resident I don't usually lose the force at home......my rich Khmer neighbors don't tolerate power outages...but it was quite woeful to be left on the dark half way through my shephards pie supper in the Rising Sun last monday evening. The riverside seems to be a particlar blackspot.
Barry from DV8 has wisely invested in a generator so when the lights go out on the riverside at night, that's where I'll be heading from now on.

They even cut the power down Monivong at night time. Of course, I was half way through a 5 page email to a friend, pouring my heart out when it cut!
I hear in the Daily (which isn't Daily) that a local businessman is going to sell power sourced from diesel generators.. using about 130,000 litres of diesel per day!!! Talk about an environmental nightmare!!!
I, on the other hand, am thinking of selling my own power to supply the city's grid. Im going to The $2 Shop, and will buy 200,000 AA batteries.

Nope, EDC simply cannot produce enough power to meet supply. Due to the increase in electricity demand, EDC can only produce 90% of the demand, so they have taken to cutting power for short periods... rotating the location of power cuts around the grid (Cambodia Daily).gorshar wrote:What is it? Well I live in Toul Svayprey; and the power goes out for around two hours at a time; three to four times a day on working days and at least once a night for up to thirty mins. But I bet the power never goes off at the much respected heirachy's houses.
It would seem that Cambodia has only about 300MW generating capacity available to transmitting networks - this is for the entire country; not including private generators of course. The majority of power is also generated using diesel generators - mmmm....what was that Kyoto protocol thing again? Anyhow to put this in perspective I come from a city of 1.7 million people which has an average demand of 2000MW per day.

After hardly a week back in I'm fed up with Cambodia and happy to spend just a few months a year in that shithole.
Chinese signage popping up everywhere, noise pollution everywhere, traffic nightmares due to big shot motorcades or just for political Circus like this morning and yesterday afternoon on Russian bvd near monivong, unreliable internet, constant price rises that make almost everything more expensive than in neighbouring countries or southern Europe.
I've been coming for over 20 years and it's been getting worse, not better. Dirt cheap and reasonably bad was acceptable. Average prices and very bad isn't. I'm off to Thailand for a few days respite.

Didn’t recognise any of those previous posters. All gone home?
I don’t know about you but it’s just one of those things if you live in Cambodia. Power cuts, water cuts, garbage, shit drivers, corruption, stupidity etc etc.
If you (not you as in Migs but everyone) can’t deal with it fuck off back home. Quite simple really.
pew, pew, pew, pew!
