Top gear-any fans here?
Just watched the four DVds being the 12th season of top gear-BBC2.
really funny.
they rode crappy motos though vietnam and drove crappy cars across botswana to namibia.
that jeremy clarkson who also writes for the times is a really funny guy.
i will be mailing them tonight suggesting that their next trip should be to cambodia.
we have some of the worst drivers in the worlds here, and thats just the barangs.
the car collection of hun tow is outrageous.
the complete disdain that khmers have for road rules is really funny.
I think that they will come in the next year.
anyone else here watch top gear?

The Vietnam special is a classic, but some good acting from Clarkson. He has rode a bike in Vietnam before. Here is a clip of a young Clarkson from a previous trip;
Top Gear in Cambodia, well I think Clarkson and May would enjoy the experience, but as for the Hamster, not sure, he is too much of a tart.

Good by clarkson.
He is funny.
i would like him to interview hun to,surely cambodias most extreme car and boat enthusiast.
and a drag race on the kompong chanang airbase that the chinese know nothing about would be a good start.
and a trip to that tunnel that was flooded went I went there a long time ago.
bet there is more concrete there than than anywhere else in cambodia.
where did the cement come from-not cambodia
and the reo???
The two 2400 metre strips are in really good condition.
i drove the merc very fast there a while ago.

downloaded the "Motorworld" series clarkson did in 95 or so.
was a bit de-sheening to see him in the new vietnam special "acting" like he
has never ridden a moto and such.
the 95 vietnam episode shows him zipping around saigon on a vespa I think.
ahhh, television.
still love top gear though. the season ending scene of him in the aston
vantage v12 is absolutely majic. goose bumps.

i herd they are 6 ft deep-concrete and bones, no doubt; certanly only about two metres wide, give or take, in other words only enuff room for fighter jets...mark latham wrote:

regrettably i never took pictures, cant believe it, probably too unnerved to stop the bike--it is really a sight -- bunkers, refuelling depot, pillboxes, the lot, all in a loop round the mountainside; never saw the tunnel; creepy place, but awesome

Runways
Neither the Holocaust Industry nor even the History Channel
Have seen its potential, that being gradually plain to us as
We open the throttle and peel over smooth, faultless runways
Fashioned from concrete, by slaves, to a depth of six feet.
Round and protuberant cannon emplacements and pillboxes
Rise grey and intact from the scrub of the somnolent mountainside,
Usefully poised to defend an enormous refuelling bay
Completed in time for a battle that never took place.
Runways stretch eastward as far as the eye can establish,
Shimmering scars of taut silver that dwindle through heat tremors.
The jungle grew back. Framing the view with our hands,
Filling the plain, we can almost see arms raising hoes.

Clarkson has a very dim view of expats. You might find some articles if you google them.
I think he has lost his edge with being so rich for so long. His mother came up with paddington bear. I think he still gets the royalties. He has got as bit big for his boots and has had to make a few apologies for his big gob.

The twin strips at kompong chanang are 2400 metres long and about 100 metres wide-it is a real airport.
there are concrete roads everywhere in that area, including a concrete road to the tunnel entrance.
We ventured in but it was flooded in the wet season.
I cant believe how much concrete was poured around that airfield complex.
I believed that it was never used but a while ago i googled it and found pictures of chinese jets in residence.
it still has a skeleton staff of useless army guys to look after it and keep snoopers out.
We drove straight in there in the merc because it was lunchtime but they didnt want us to leave without paying money-I told them that we were from the australian embassy and kept going.
Strip still used occasionally for emergency landings.
